The 116th Skeptics' Circle
The 116th edition of the Skeptics' Circle is up at Beyond the Short Coat, as a doctor wander through a homeopathic ER. Very amusing.

A discussion of skepticism, logic, math, intelligent design creationism, board games, the Utah Jazz, marriage, having three children on the autism spectrum and two that not on the spectrum, being a DBA, teaching, the St. Louis metro area, my health since being diagnosed with ALS, and anything else that comes to mind.
With formal systems, such as mathematics, you can have certainty and demonstrability, but not reality.
With science, such as physics, you can have reality and demonstrability, but not certainty.
With belief systems, such as Christianity, you can have reality and certainty, but not demonstrability.
After the great example of St. Thomas, the principle stands, or ought always to have stood established; that we must either not argue with a man at all, or we must argue on his grounds and not ours. We may do other things instead of arguing, according to our views of what actions are morally permissible; but if we argue we must argue "On the reasons and statements of the philosophers themselves."
Any habitual action, such as eating or dressing, may be performed on the appropriate occasion, without any need of thought, and the same seems to be true of a painfully large proportion of our talk.

One Brow, the reason I came here was to get some answers about my suspicions, and I hope you will engage me in a logical and fair manner.
What is going on at Jazzfanz that they allow all this homophobic innuendo to continue? It all started with Aint, whom I sent PMs about toning it down. I thought it was very inappropriate and had nothing to do with talking basketball.
Later I get into it with you about the finer points of Ad Hominem arguments, and instead of looking at the main thrust of what I was saying that people were attacking me personally and not talking basketball, you start attacking my definition of ad hominem, a logical fallacy in itself because you were avoiding my charge of personal attacks.
It made me suspicious of you. Then you start questioning my assessment of the derivation of Aint's dialect and I brought up Geneva Smitherman, one of foremost experts on black linguistics. If you don't believe me, look it up.
I know this is off the topic of your site. But I would like some answers. Straight answers.

Janzfanz tends to reflect the society of actual fans of the Jazz, most of whom are from Utah and Mormon, and thus tend to be insensitive regarding using homosexual terms as insults. I don't like it, but i don't dislike it enough to make it a crusade.

The only thing close to an atack on, as a person, that I recall from that thread was a comment that your posts were always wrong. As insults go, I don't find that one to be directed at you, but the content of your posts.

Actually, I believe you have the temporality of the arguments reversed (the one about ad hominem occured after aintnuthin had been banned). As for your suspicions, I could not care less about them.

So far, you have only asked one question. any others?
Yes, are you Aint? How did you get to be so cozy with him, if you're not? He was very protective of his identity.
Also, since when did Aint become so interested in evolution ... and Aint aint from Utah, he's from Illinois, like you, he did admit that to me, Eric, or maybe that isn't your real name, is it. Clever. I am going to unmask you before this is over. I've already noted many associations.
Yes, are you Aint?
No.
How did you get to be so cozy with him, if you're not?
By being very good at arguing ponts of view he did not hold, which is pretty much the extent of our relationship. We have a mutual respect for each other's ability to understand and interpret the world, even when we disagree. Outside of that, I don't know him any more than you do.
Also, since when did Aint become so interested in evolution
When? I have no idea. He disagreed with a comment I made that evolution is a well-confirmed as heliocenttrism, and we have been discussing various tangents of those arguments for years.
..and Aint aint from Utah, he's from Illinois, like you,
I'm not from Illinois, it's where I currently live (and lived for the first 4 months of my life). I have spent more than times as much of my life living in Missouri and Ohio as I have in Illinois, and about an equal amount of time in Iowa and Hawaii.
he did admit that to me
He was clear about that practically from his first post. It was hardly an admission to you.
Eric, or maybe that isn't your real name, is it.
If you can convincingly tell me why it matters, I'll tell you how to tie it together.
I am going to unmask you before this is over. I've already noted many associations.
As long as your being so open-minded about the whole thing. At any rate, do what you like. It will make little difference to me.
write4u,
Just so you know, some 99% of the comments on this board under that are anonymous seem to come from aintnuthin. I thought you should have fair warning on that.
geez, there really is some drama going on here....
I'd sort of missed all this, and I mean "missed" in a sense of having avoided it, not in the sense of a nostalgic longing...
pretty amusing however!
Howdy and welcome, moevillini. Yeah, write4u's an interesting guy.
